Zcash

Bitcoin and most cryptocurrencies expose your entire payment history to the public. Zcash is the first open, permissionless cryptocurrency that can fully protect the privacy of transactions using zero-knowledge cryptography.

Trolls Who Hate Bitcoin

For unknown reason$ a large number of online accounts began harping on Bitcoin and trying to change it from the concepts that made it work. Here we document those Trouble makers who remain to "Troll" people when from any logical point of view they have no reason to remain (and often to repeat easily disproven opinions), unless they hate Bitcoin.

Unable to view Bitcoin transaction on Blockchain

Unusually, I have sent 1 BTC from Multibit but half an hour later, it has not appeared on blockchain. Is there any way to cancel a transaction on Multibit or submit a support request?

A common response I see to justifying high transaction fees is: "If Bitcoin hits $100,000 then I don't care about paying a $500 fee!" That is a very selfish and short-sighted view.

It's very SELFISH and short-sighted to justify high transaction fees just because you think the coin might hit $100,000.
The higher fees go, the more of the world is shut off from the ability to avail themselves of the freedom of money. So just because you can afford it, doesn't mean that the rest of the world can. Bitcoin is about helping the WORLD.
To these people who justify high fees with a high price: Think a little outside yourself and stop being so selfish.

Why Bitcoin Benefits Merchants vs. CC Transactions

We keep looking at Bitcoin from Joe Consumer's point of view, and keep missing Joe Merchant's point of view.
Bitcoin: transaction "approval" takes seconds, "funds spendable" and "transaction finalization" takes minutes
Credit cards: transaction "approval" takes seconds, "funds spendable" takes days and "transaction finalization" takes months.
A card transaction can be reversed for months after the sale. According to Visa 120 days or longer.
Source
120+ days is in fact the relevant date to be discussing. Here's why.
Consider a POS sale, at the terminal.
As a merchant, when you send me a bitcoin transaction with a 0.0001 btc transaction fee and my client sees the transaction, there's an extreme likelihood that the transaction will go through. That's all the approval most transactions will ever need in a POS situation.
This is akin to getting a card approval on a credit card. As the merchant, you don't KNOW that you didn't just get a fraudulent charge, and the funds haven't hit your account yet, but it's good enough verification for most transactions.
Now with Bitcoin there is the question of a fraud attempt in the form of a double spend. In ten minutes, you will typically be able to verify that the transaction wasn't fraudulent. By then the funds are "in your account." Spendable and finalized in 10 minutes.
With credit cards it's a whole different story. The funds aren't typically in your account for several days. And the charge can be fraudulently reversed for months. From an accounting point of view, that's a terrific liability by comparison. Particularly if you're in a business that is targeted by fraud.
Hope this helps everyone understand the tangible, real world benefits of Bitcoin to merchants.

Are there any PHP-based Bitcoin RPC Libraries that are recommended? I am only trying to view transaction history / address-holdings.

Hello, I am aware of the dangers of trusting RPC calls for actually signing/broadcasting transactions -- I do not wish to do this!
I do wish to see the balance given a BTC address, and ideally the previous transactions leading up to the given address' balance.
A cursory google shows me there are a multitude of options. I figured asking you wonderful folks would help ensure I am using the right option!
Thank you very much my friends,

Skepticism Sunday – October 11, 2020

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.
NOT the positive aspects of it.
Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.
Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.
Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.
It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.
"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling
How it works:
Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.
If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable
Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.
The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.
As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.
